Henrik hat-trick in Bhoys romp
GLASGOW, Aug 30 (Reuters) - Henrik Larsson grabbed a hat-trick as Celtic
cruised to a 5-1 victory over Livingston on Saturday to go top of the
Scottish premier league table.
Swedish striker Larsson gave Celtic the lead on the 25th minute after Alan
Thompson had missed an early penalty.
Shaun Maloney doubled the advantage before the interval, Larsson struck
twice after halftime and Thompson completed the rout in the final minute.
'I thought there was some fine movement and decent goals, so it was a good
afternoon for us,' Celtic manager Martin O'Neill told reporters.
Celtic now lead the table with 10 points from four games but city rivals
Rangers, with three wins out of three, can recover top position if they
win at Dundee United on Sunday.
A mood of optimism engulfed Celtic's fans prior to kickoff after Thursday's
draw for the Champions League grouped them with Bayern Munich, Olympique Lyon
and Anderlecht.
Larsson gave them more cause to celebrate when he hit the opener with a
bullet header from Thompson's cross.
Livingston were culpable of shoddy defending as Maloney nodded over the line
on 39 minutes before another Larsson header found the net on 56 minutes.
Larsson completed his hat-trick with a powerful drive 14 minutes from time
and, while Derek Lilley slipped home a consolation for Livingston on 84
minutes, Thompson gave the score a truer reflection from a free kick in the
dying seconds.
Hibernian and Aberdeen drew 1-1 and Motherwell and Partick Thistle drew 2-2
in Saturday's other matches.
Rangers play bottom club Dundee United on Sunday when Hearts meet Dunfermline
Athletic and Kilmarnock take on Dundee.
