In US, most athelets start training very early too the athelets raise funding by themselves in many different ways so that they can pay the training fee in private clubs. For example, Shawn Johnson's parents mortaged their house twice for her trainings. Many of them need to ask donations from neibourhood or local communities. If they do well in these clubs, they may get athelet scholarshops in public universities, which are run by the state governments. The tuition is so high in US that the tuition waiver and scholarship may pay off their earlier investment. In most public universities, only American Football team can earn some money for them.
