Paul Bako, C 8 passed balls C- O's want to upgrade offense at backup catcher, so return is unlikely. Erik Bedard, SP 221 strikeouts A If not for season-ending injury, ace would be in the Cy Young conversation. Rob Bell, RP 5.94 ERA C- Logged innings at times of major need, which counts for something. Kurt Birkins, RP .340 opp. batting avg. D Never took advantage of few opportunities and failed to build off solid 2006. Chad Bradford, RP 78 games B Frequently asked to get out of tough jams, responded more often than not. Brian Burres, SP 17 starts C+ Gritty lefty had strong stretches and pitched well enough to be in '08 plans. Freddie Bynum, UT 70 games C+ Didn't get much of an opportunity, but didn't hurt team when he played. Daniel Cabrera, SP 18 losses F 200-plus innings outweighed by leading AL in losses, walks and earned runs. Jay Gibbons, OF/DH .230 avg. F Reports he received performance-enhancing drugs capped a miserable year. Jeremy Guthrie, SP 26 starts A- One of O's biggest bright spots; penciled in near top of next year's rotation. Ramon Hernandez, C 9 HRs D Didn't produce offensively or defensively in injury-hampered season. Jim Hoey, RP 7.30 ERA C Looked great at some points, overmatched at others; in mix for '08 bullpen. Aubrey Huff, 1B-DH 15 HRs C Started to get hot at end of season, but by then it was much too late. Adam Loewen, SP 6 starts I Elbow injury robbed him of valuable development, but expected ready for '08. Nick Markakis, OF 112 RBIs A So much for sophomore slump - O's best player offensively and defensively. Kevin Millar , 1B .365 obp B+ Did about as well as could be expected, getting on base and playing solid first. Melvin Mora, 3B 126 games C Interesting if he'd consider dropping no-trade clause to move to contender. Corey Patterson, OF 37 steals B- Defense biggest reason to re-sign free agent, but consistency remains issue. Jay Payton, OF .292 obp C- Frustration of losing got best of him; long shot to return. Chris Ray, RP 4 blown saves I Was shaky, though elbow may have bothered him from start; out most of '08. Tike Redman, OF .318 avg. A Given opportunity, did nothing but produce and might have earned return. Brian Roberts, 2B 50 steals B+ Lone All-Star had rough start and finish but was tremendous in between. Miguel Tejada, SS 18 HRs C+ Offense about what you'd expect. Defense is another story. Jamie Walker, RP 81 games A Workhorse set franchise record with 81 games; team's best reliever. Jaret Wright, SP 3 starts I Paid $1 million per start in perhaps last year of once-promising career. Players who didn't finish season with the organization are not included. Position players who had fewer than 75 at-bats also were not included.
