That's why McGrady hopes that Hill will retire if he struggles in his next comeback from a fourth surgery on his left ankle. "If he [Hill] doesn't have it this year . . . I don't want to see him retire. I want to see him come back and try to give it a shot. . . . But if it doesn't wor k out, then that's the best thing for him to do, is to retire," McGrady said Sat urday. " . . . it's a sad ending, but you know, he'll still be w alking Hill has been a virtual recluse since undergoing the most extensive surgery to d ate on his ankle in March McGrady, who vacationed in Acapulco last month, said he hasn't talked to Hill fo r some time and can't give a progress report on his recovery. When informed of the possibility that Hill might sit out the season and the Magi c could receive a $4.9 million disabled player's exception, McGrady looked taken aback. "Whatever is best for the team," McGrady said after participating in a Big Broth ers & Big Sisters charity bowling event Saturday in Fern Park. McGrady only shakes his head when asked about the Magic blowing a 3-1 playoff le ad and being ousted by the Detroit Pistons. His wish list for an improved team b egins and ends the same as it has the last three seasons. "We need a big guy, man. We've been stressing that for three or four years now," he said. "I think Drew Gooden has been doing a great job but he's still not that big guy you're looking for," said McGrady of Gooden, who arrived at midseason in a trade that sent McGrady's friend, Mike Miller, to the Memphis Grizzlies. "He's a powe r forward and he plays extremely hard, but I think we need a center." As for McGrady's game, he is working on all the components this off-season. And because he is playing for the U.S. national team at this summer's Olympic qualif ying tournament in Puerto Rico in August, "my workouts started earlier this summ er.
