ZaZa 怒了!
Zaur "Zaza" Pachulia was not happy after the NBA draft.
"He said to me when he first got in, 'You know what, Coach? I am an angry
player,' " recalled Magic assistant Mark Hughes. "And I said 'You're angry?'
And he said, 'Yes, all those guys taken in the first round before me. I am
angry. I am here to prove that many teams made a mistake.' "
Pachulia has had a strong showing so far in summer-league play, averaging
12 points and 8.7 rebounds a game.
"During the season, everybody was expecting me in first round," Pachulia
said. "And when I came in the draft the second round, I was still sitting. So
I got very angry. So after the draft, I said I was going to show myself and
all the people that I'm a player for the first round."
Like most overseas prospects, the 6-foot-11 forward/center from Turkey by
way of the Republic of Georgia will have to refine his game to fit the NBA
style. The 19-year-old is still raw.
"I was playing in Europe, and European basketball and American basketball
is a little bit different," Pachulia said. "The rules, players, intensity,
everything. It's not my game, but I'll do better."
Hughes doesn't think Pachulia will have much of a problem.
"With a chip on your shoulder like that, you can't teach. You either have
it or you don't. He has something to play for. Same with Keith Bogans.
"They both have chips on their shoulders, and they want to prove that
they belong in this league."
