Question for Conrad Brunner March 30, 2007 Q. What is the status of the Pacers selection for the 2007 Draft? If they finish in the playoffs, do they have a selection? If not in the playoffs and they possess one of the top ten, are they required to relinquish it? A. If the Pacers qualify for the playoffs, they will not have a draft pick in either the first or second round in the 2007 NBA Draft. The first-round pick, conditionally, was sent to Atlanta in the Al Harrington deal. (哈寶人呢? 去當勇士了...orz|||) The second-rounder went to Portland in last June's draft-night deal to obtain the rights to James White. (小白人勒? 在聖安東尼奧打球) The first-round pick will remain with the Pacers only if it turns out to be one of the top 10 selections, so they'd automatically lose it if they reach the postseason. If they do not make the playoffs, there's still a chance they'd lose the pick. Among the 14 lottery teams, if the Pacers finish with a record that ranks between 11th and 14th, they'll have less than a 1 percent chance of moving into the top 10 picks. (努力要趁早!) To assure that they'll have a pick no worse than 10th, they need to finish with at least the eighth-worst record. The Pacers are currently tied with the Knicks for the 11th-worst record. Where they finish in the standings won't determine whether Atlanta gets the pick; it's where they wind up after the NBA Draft Lottery on May 22. Do you think maybe the Pacers should consider working more toward the future the rest of this year and shutting down some of our guys that are hurting? Even if we squeak into the playoffs we would be facing a loaded Detroit team for example with our stars being the "walking wounded" at best. Perhaps if we shut down the top tier players that are hurt and let the young guys develop the rest of the season maybe by next year we could have a very fresh J.O. and a nice group of young guys who have time under their belt. A. We're in a mode where were trying to make the playoffs regardless who's available. If it gets to a point where our injured guys need to be shut down then we will do that. Medically, we're not at that point yet and hopefully we won't be. (莊孝維!小歐明明就受傷啦!) We're not going to go into a mode of 'hey, let's look toward next year.' That's not what this is going to be about.
