The Indiana Pacers president said Tuesday afternoon they're talking to teams but he isn't sure they will tinker with the roster before the Feb..21 trade deadline. Bird made those comments before the Pacers suffered their sixth loss in seven games when they fell to the Utah Jazz 111-89. The Pacers are a season-high four games under .500. "Will we do anything? I don't know," Bird said. "Obviously teams are trying to strengthen what they have. We're not looking to get rid of any core players right now, but you never know." Bird, in his first season with complete control of player personnel, said one of the biggest problems the Pacers have endured is inconsistency. The Pacers already have had two losing streaks of at least fives games and they've lost seven games after leading by at least 10 points. "We're not playing as consistent as I would like," Bird said. "We're pretty good for two and a half, three quarters of the game, but we're not getting over the hump. The defense isn't playing well. We're giving up too many baskets. "They're still getting used to playing under (coach Jim) O'Brien's offensive system. That takes awhile. Most of our guys here the last two years have played a halfcourt game. You have to prepare yourself mentally to run every play, every rebound.
