But on Sunday, physical play between guard J.R. Smith and forward Jackson Vroman led to a heated exchange that resulted in them having to be separated at practice. Jackson thought he was fouled unnecessarily by Smith on a play and tossed the ball at him. Then, they came toward each other before they had to be separated. The incident occurred before the Hornets' practice was open to the public at the Ford Center. Both players declined to discuss the matter. "We've been going at each other for a month now at a pretty high level, and I think right now guys are a little testy," Hornets forward David West said. "I think all of us are ready to get the real thing rolling." Scott prefers to see his players get after opponents than have confrontations with each other at practice. "They got a little tired seeing each other I guess," Scott said. "We had a little ruckus today. But I hope they have that same kind of energy Tuesday (in the opener against Sacramento). From a physical standpoint, I told them we got our butt kicked against Atlanta (in the final preseason game) and if we come in with the same attitude against Sacramento, it's going to happen again. So hopefully the aggressive play I saw today will be the same Tuesday. "We didn't see that last year, and I think it is kind of good. You should have moments in practice where you can't stand each other.
