Hornets, 76ers extend deadline for trade

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The New Orleans Hornets and Philadelphia 76ers
extended the deadline for a trade involving Sixers backup center Steven Hunter
until Tuesday.
The teams had originally extended the deadline from noon Saturday to 5 p.m.
Monday so that New Orleans officials could analyze results of a physical exam
taken Friday by Hunter, who missed 39 games in 2002 with a knee injury. Hornets
team spokesman Scott Hall said Monday the deadline had been extended until noon
Tuesday.
The Hornets traded second-round draft picks in 2006 and 2007 to the 76ers for
the 24-year-old Hunter, a 7-footer who averaged 4.9 points and 3.4 rebounds in
35 games with the 76ers this season, plus cash.
Hunter tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in 2002 and missed
39 games while recovering from surgery. Citing medical privacy, the Hornets
have not said whether that injury was holding up the completion of the trade.
Hunter is projected to help out a front line that lost Chris Andersen last
month for violating the league's drug policy. New Orleans also acquired center
Aaron Williams from Toronto last week.
Hunter was a first-round pick by Orlando in 2001 and played three seasons with
the Magic and one with Phoenix before signing with Philadelphia as a free agent.
