Position player of the year: Tyler Green, Brazoswood
Pitcher of the year: Jameson Taillon, The Woodlands
First Team
Toller Boardman, Jr., P, Bellaire
The lefthander and Texas commitment was the District 20-5A Player of the
Year. He went 11-1 with a 0.86 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 74 innings.
Reed Seeley, Jr., P, Baytown Lee
He was the District 21-5A Most Valuable Player and posted a 0.96 ERA for the
Ganders this season. He struck out 122 batters this year and also starred at
the plate and at shortstop, where he was an all-state selection.
John Simms, Sr., P, College Park
The Rice signee was the District 14-5A Most Valuable Player, going 8-1 with a
1.07 ERA. He struck out 123 batters in 65.1 innings while also hitting .370
at the plate.
Jameson Taillon, Sr., P, The Woodlands
The Rice signee and No. 2 overall pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the MLB
draft was 8-1 with a 1.78 ERA with 114 strikeouts in 62.2 hitting .370 at
the plate.
Chase Wellbrock, Sr., P, Brenham
The Houston signee helped the Cubs to a state championship with his 18-0
record, 1.83 ERA and 106 strikeouts in 99 innings. He broke Brenham’s school
record for wins and best pitching record in a season.
Cole Lankford, Jr., C, Lamar
The Texas A&M commitment hit .541 with 10 home runs and 68 RBIs for the
Redskins this season. He was a first-team all-state selection and has been a
three-time first-team all-district pick.
Jake Wise, Sr., C, Cypress Falls
The Golden Eagles catcher hit a District 15-5A best .505 with 11 homers and
31 RBIs in the regular season.
Taylor Cobb, Jr., IF, FB Austin
Cobb was the area’s regular-season leader in Class 5A in batting average
(.562) and RBIs (43). He also hit five home runs and scored 28 runs for the
Bulldogs.
Tyler Green, Sr., IF, Brazoswood
The TCU signee and eighth-round pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks was a terror
at the plate (.500 average, .925 slugging percentage, 11 homers, 46 RBI) and
on the mound (10-1 record, 0.93 ERA, 108 strikeouts in 75.2 innings).
Jared Lakind, Sr., IF, Cypress Woods
The Arkansas signee and District 15-5A Most Valuable Player hit .404 with
five homers and 23 RBIs in the regular season and complemented his work in
the batter’s box with an 8-0 record, a 1.88 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 63.1
innings pitched.
Jake Kane, Sr., IF, Dulles
The first-team all-district pick and Blinn College signee hit .438 with 10
homers and 32 RBIs while slugging .888 for the Vikings.
John Stanford, Sr., IF, Clements
He was one of the key pieces of the Rangers run to the state tournament,
hitting .415 with 12 homers and 47 RBIs while slugging .849.
Michael Aquino, Sr., OF, College Park
The two-time first-team all-district pick hit .395 with 11 home runs and 31
RBIs while slugging .884 for the Cavaliers.
Chance Bolcerek, Jr., OF, Brenham
The District 18-4A Most Valuable Player and Texas A&M commitment hit .549
with 10 homers and 63 RBIs while stealing 28 bases for the state champion
Cubs.
Blake Whitter, Sr., OF, Kingwood
Whitter, the District 21-5A Most Valuable Player and a Texas State signee,
was a dual threat. He hit .422 with four homers and 38 RBIs while going 8-2
on the mound with a 2.40 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 65.1 innings.
Boomer White, So., OF, Memorial
The District 18-5A Newcomer of the Year hit .408 with nine homers and 39 RBIs
and collected 62 hits out of the leadoff spot for the Mustangs.
