Judge is a massive human. He looks more like a Tight End than an outfielder
but he is just that. He stands 6’7" and weighs about 230 LBS.
The majority of Judge's value is tied up in one tool but none of the others
are a real detriment. His power potential is elite in flashes. He can hit the
ball a mile when he squares it up but that hasn't been very often in his
collegiate career. His swing is long but he does control the bat well, so he
has the potential to shorten it up and become a better hitter. He is athletic
for his size and that should help him in all facets of the game.
He can run a little and won't clog bases but his speed is not an asset. He
may slow down enough to end up at first base, but he could be a corner
outfield in the mean time. His arm is an asset and he can run well enough now
to be an average defender out there.
In the long run, most of his value will be determined by how much he can hit.
If the contact isn't there, the power won't be and he will have no value.
Anyone who takes Judge with a high pick as a hitter will really have to
believe in the bat.
One other thing worth noting is that he was 88-90 on the mound in high
school. He had a good breaking ball and really used his height to his
advantage.
