Meadows is one of those players than will really get a lot of people excited.
Possessing the physicality of a player that one would hope to roam center
field of a championship team, he immediately gets your attention. He passes
the eye test.
He is extremely athletic and has the speed to cover as much ground as you
would need from a center fielder. He has a strong enough arm to profile there
as well as be average for a corner spot. Defensively much of his value will
be whether he is a corner guy or not. If he can't stay up the middle, the bat
will really have to play up.
His size combined with his bat speed makes it easy to think that power will
come. His swing creates good loft and he could be a 30 HR guy if he reaches
his potential. Contact is where I'm not sold. In my viewings, he hasn't
squared the ball up consistently. He hits the ball weakly or pops it up
frequently. When he does square it up, it flies but it didn't happen as often
as I'd like from a guy slated to be a top 10 pick.
As a physical specimen who could hit 30 home runs and stick in center field,
the package is just too good to pass on at the top of the draft but his hit
tool is worrisome to me. Player development will have a good player to work
with here and I can't see him sliding out of the top 10 unless something
unusual happens prior to June. If he happens to head to college, he is
committed to Clemson.
