Thomas is a unique player. No one has a good reason for Thomas not signing
after being drafted in 2012. This is a little disconcerting to me. I'm not
sure what to think about that.
He is a lean athletic player that is probably a little bigger and slower than
a player that would profile in center field. He is more athletic and has less
power than an ideal corner outfielder, so he has the label of tweener from
me. He could hold down center on occasion but I wouldn't run him out there
often.
His bat is good. His college numbers look better than what I saw when I
watched Georgia Tech. His swing is inconsistent and doesn't look to ever
produce much more than gap power. I'm not even that confident he will hit for
average consistently.
With that said, a team that likes him sees an athletic switch hitter with the
potential to hit for high average with average power potential could take him
early, again. That takes an aggressive projection considering his age and his
current ability but while I wouldn’t agree with it, the tools are there to
dream that it could happen. Personally, I'd stay away if I was an MLB team
but I think the athleticism will draw some team into taking him in the first
few rounds.
