The procedure will end the high school career of Sheffield, who has thrown just three innings this spring. Sheffield was seen by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday in Gulf Breeze, Fla. Andrews will perform the surgery, which typically takes a year’s recovery time for pitchers. “If he had pitched all year like he pitched in the preseason, there’s probably better than a 50 percent chance he’d have gone in the first round, conservatively,” Tullahoma coach Brad White said. “If he’d played well, I think they’d have made it a tough decision on him (signing or going to Vanderbilt).” Tullahoma improved to 21-3 (6-0 8-AAA) with 2-1 win over Lawrence County Wednesday at Vanderbilt. “This is a tight group of guys,” White said. “We’ve got 13 seniors and only 17 guys on the team. We’ve got four juniors, one of whom is his brother (Justus, a Vanderbilt commitment), so they’ve played together a long time.
