(1)Feldman has surgery, rotation spot unlikely The Rangers don't know what their rotation will be like at the beginning of next season, but it won't include Brandon McCarthy and it is unlikely to include Scott Feldman Feldman is still with the Rangers, but he underwent surgery on his right knee to repair torn cartilage. He will be sidelined for three months and will be limited at the beginning of Spring Training. "Full recovery is expected, but it's going to take some time," said general manager Jon Daniels. Feldman was the Rangers' Pitcher of the Year in 2009 when he went 17-8 with a 4.08 ERA, but he dropped to 7-11 with a 5.48 ERA this past season. He was also on the disabled list from Aug. 22 to Sept. 6 with a bone bruise in his right knee. Feldman never regained full health and was not on the Rangers postseason roster. He was 13-15 with a 4.68 ERA in 44 starts and one relief appearance with the Rangers but was on the disabled list five times in four seasons, mainly because of right shoulder problems relating to a stress fracture in his collarbone. He was 4-2 with a 3.36 ERA in nine starts and two relief appearances at Triple-A Oklahoma City this season while missing time because of shoulder inflammation. "Brandon worked hard," Daniels said. "Obviously, he had a couple of unfortunate injuries, but he worked hard. It just didn't work out. We wanted to make this move now rather than at the non-tender deadline and let him see what's the best opportunity out there for him. Maybe a change of scenery will help." Mathis has spent the past three seasons going back and forth from Oklahoma City. A 13th-round Draft pick out of Missouri in 2005, Mathis made six starts and 39 relief appearances for the Rangers over the past three seasons, going 3-3 with a 4.84 ERA. He was 5-7 with a 5.66 ERA at Oklahoma City. German saw limited time with the Rangers over the past two seasons as a utility infielder and a pinch-runner. He appeared in just 13 games with the Rangers in 2010 while playing in 126 games at Oklahoma City, where he hit .280 with 50 stolen bases. Club president Nolan Ryan said earlier this week that he expects Lee's situation to play out over a long period of time and nothing has happened this week to change that. Players with at least three years and less than six years of service time qualify for arbitration, but also do the top 17 percent of players with two-plus years of service. O'Day fell into that category, which likely means a substantial increase over his salary of $426,700 in 2010. Daniels made it clear that it would not change how the Rangers view O'Day's importance to the team. The Rangers have eight players eligible for arbitration: O'Day, pitchers C.J.
