Hamilton said he wasn't concerned about contract extension talks, which were going nowhere even before he acknowledged to acting out while drinking in a Dallas bar last month. Before the incident, Hamilton had said he intended for his reporting date at spring training to be the deadline for getting a contract done before he filed for free agency at the end of the season. After reports of the drinking incident leaked, both the club and Hamilton decided to put things on hold indefinitely. There is no expectation that talks will resume during spring training. Hamilton indicated that while he's not concerned about the contract, his negotiating stance hasn't changed. He was asked if he would reward himself a long-term contract, if he had the opportunity to decide. "It's not for me to make that decision," Hamilton said. "I hate that this happened. They have been very good to me. But I know I will play baseball. I know God has taken care of me and provided for my family. I'm not going to just jump at whatever might be the first thing offered me. I'm confident in my sobriety. I'm confident in my family's support.
