Raptor blockbuster reportedly in the works

A blockbuster trade rumour out of Portland involving Toronto's
Vince Carter and Jalen Rose sparked little public response
from the Raptors on today.
"I don't make any comments on trade discussions," Raptors GM
Rob Babcock said.
A Portland radio station, 1080 The Fan, reported a potential
trade that would see Carter and Rose headed to Portland for
Shareef Abdur-Rahim and either Derek Anderson or Nick Van Exel.
Under the NBA's complicated salary cap configuration, the deal
would work as the salaries - about $27 million (all figures
U.S.) for the pair - match.
The 27-year-old Carter, a five-time NBA all-star, went public
with his desire to be traded in the off-season, saying he'd
grown weary of Toronto's losing ways.
The Raptors are 4-5 after going 1-5 on their recent six-game
Western road swing. Carter, who will make $12.6 million US this
season, struggled on the road, and found himself on the bench
during the fourth quarter of a couple of games. He's averaging
a career-low 15 points per game.
Rose, whose contract pays $14.5 million US this season, is
averaging 15.4 points and 2.2 assists per game.
Van Exel and Abdur-Rahim become free agents after this season,
which would free up room under the salary cap for the Raptors
in the future.
Abdur-Rahim, 27, has averaged 15.1 points and 7.1 rebounds in
seven games with the Trail Blazers this season, while Van Exel
has averaged 7.9 points in limited playing time behind starter
Damon Stoudamire.
The Raptors host Seattle on Friday.
