Rays sign OF Kapler
ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA (TICKER)—The American League champion Tampa Bay Rays
on Monday signed reserve outfielder Gabe Kapler to a one-year contract.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but the Tampa Tribune reported that the
deal is worth $1 million.
Kapler, 33, joins the Rays after spending last season with the Milwaukee
Brewers, where he batted .301 with eight home runs and 38 RBI in 96 games.
The 10-year veteran came out of retirement last year after managing the Class-A
Greenville Drive in the Boston Red Sox organization in 2007.
Prior to that, Kapler played parts of four seasons for Boston (2003-06),
helping the Red Sox win the World Series in 2004.
Kapler is a career .273 hitter with 72 homers and 340 RBI.
