PORT CHAPRLOTTE, Fla. -- Fernando Perez had to exit in the first inning of Tuesday's game after diving for a ball hit to center field by Toronto's Travis Snider. Perez appeared to have hurt his left arm or wrist on the play, and he did not hesitate in heading toward the dugout after the injury. Before he reached the infield, Perez was met by trainers and Rays manager Joe Maddon in shallow right field. After a brief meeting, he headed for the clubhouse accompanied by a team trainer. Jon Weber took Perez's place in center field. Andrew Friedman, the Rays' executive vice president of baseball operations, said different opinions on Perez's injury are being sought, so the team doesn't have a definitive answer for the diagnosis. Friedman did say of Perez: "He won't be playing in the next week. I can say that definitively." Perez was not available for comment following Tuesday's game.
