[農場] 2011 MLB.com's Top 50 Prospects: No. 4 …
Chris Archer, RHP
2010 Rank: NR
Drafted: 2006, 5th (161)
ETA in Majors: 2012
Statistically speaking:
Archer hit double-digits in strikeouts twice during the regular season,
but it was his 10-strikeout performance after the season that really stood out.
Facing Cuba in the Pan Am Qualifying Tournament, Archer struck out 10 and
walked none while allowing just two hits over six scoreless innings.
He also didn't walk anyone in his two 10-strikeout starts while with
Daytona in the Florida State League.
Scouting report:
The key to the Matt Garza deal, Archer has above-average to plus stuff
nearly across the board. His fastball is a plus and it can reach the upper
90s. His fastball command was outstanding in 2010. He throws a plus slider.
His changeup is behind those two, but it's improved markedly. His makeup is
off the charts. The fastball-slider combination alone could get him to the
big leagues quickly as a reliever, but with his improved command and rapidly
developing changeup, he's got a future as a starter.
Upside potential: A solid No. 2 or outstanding No. 3 starter.
They said it: "Simply said, we really like the deal a lot -- it kind of fits
in with our short-term and long-term objectives. "It's a perfect win-win
trade for both sides or we wouldn't have done it." -- Rays executive vice
president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman on the trade
He said it: "It's awesome, being a major piece in any trade is cool. For it
to be for a No. 1 starter, it makes you feel pretty good. I'm not saying I
feel secure by any means, because I have a lot of work to do, but you
definitely go in with your head held high. It's definitely not a bad thing."
