8. Brandon Guyer OF Guyer was also part of the package of players acquired for Matt Garza, marking the third player that came over from the Cubs in that deal to be included on this list. Considered slightly old for a prospect at 25, he spent the majority of the season playing for Triple-A Durham where he posted a .312/.384/.521 line with 14 HR and 61 RBI. He can play a range of outfield positions, and has pop and some speed on the basepaths. He made his big league debut with the Rays down the stretch and should get a look in the outfield in Spring Training. What remains to be seen, is whether he can be a starting outfielder, or if he'll end up in a fourth outfield role. Mikie Mahtook OF Mahtook was a centrefielder with LSU, and currently has the defensive ability to play all three outfield positions. He's got a strong body that produces great bad speed, and power to the pull field. His bat profiles the best in centre and he certainly has the instincts to play the position, but his arm and speed both project to be average tools, leaving his future position to be determined. He has the kind of offensive potential to be an impact outfielder, possibly in the Torii Hunter mold, albeit with a bit less speed. Derek Dietrich SS Dietrich is known more for his bat than his glove, even though he currently plays a premium position. Scouts worry that he may eventually have to move off SS, but his bat will play as long as they can find a home for him. Both things proved true for Dietrich in 2011, as he spent the entire year playing for the Bowling Green Hot Rods of the Midwest League. He hit, to the tune of a .277/.346/.502 line with 22 HR and 81 RBI, but he also committed 25 errors at shortstop. Unless scouts are soured at this point, Dietrich should get another crack at the position with the Class-A+ Charlotte Stone Crabs in 2012.
