Francona wouldn't reveal his bullpen strategy on how he'll use certain
pitchers the rest of the season. But the first two games were telling, though
Francona didn't think we should sense a pattern. It appears Jonathan
Papelbon, Justin Masterson, and Hideki Okajima will pitch when the team is
ahead and Manny Delcarmen, Takashi Saito, and Ramon Ramirez will pitch when
they're behind. Javier Lopez pitches to lefties in any situation. But expect
the "mop-up" guys to also get matched up in certain situations when the team
is ahead. On a team with no true "mop-up" type relievers, someone's got to do
it. It would also appear that Masterson would be used multiple innings if
need be and that Delcarmen could also pitch a couple of innings.
