Tim Wakefield was scheduled to spend part of his afternoon Monday playing
catch, but the medical staff thought it best to keep him off the field.
"The medical staff wouldn't allow it," he said. "I felt like I could have. I
feel fine. I feel a lot better."
Wakefield is on the disabled list because of back problems. There have been
growing concerns about the long-term situation for the 42-year-old pitcher.
On the recent road trip, Wakefield was so uncomfortable he had trouble
sitting on the team bench in Texas.
Wakefield is eligible to come off the DL Aug. 2.
