http://0rz.tw/ogaid 06/24/2012 6:07 PM EST Red Sox Acquire Infielder/Outfielder Brent Lillibridge and Right-Handed Pitcher Zach Stewart from the White Sox in exchange for Third Baseman Kevin Youkilis and cash considerations The Boston Red Sox today acquired infielder/outfielder Brent Lillibridge and right-handed pitcher Zach Stewart from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for third baseman Kevin Youkilis and cash considerations. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Red Sox designated left fielder Oscar Tejeda for assignment. Stewart has been assigned to Triple-A Pawtucket. The announcements were made by Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington. Lillibridge, 28, has appeared in 285 Major League games over the last five seasons with the Braves (2008) and White Sox (2009-12) and has hit .215 (112-for-522) with 19 doubles, four triples, 16 home runs, 58 RBI, 85 runs, 41 walks and 30 stolen bases. He has played in 49 games with Chicago this season, making appearances at first base (20 games, 2 starts), third base (6 G, 6 GS), left field (16 G, 2 GS) and center field (5 G, 3 GS). The right-handed batter has gone 11-for-63 (.175) with a double, two RBI, 10 runs, four walks and seven stolen bases. Originally selected by the Pirates in the fourth round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft, Lillibridge set a career high with 13 home runs for the White Sox in 2011 and ranked fourth in the American League with an average of one home run every 14.31 at-bats (min. 185 AB). The 25-year-old Stewart has pitched in 31 Major League games (12 starts) with the Blue Jays and White Sox over the last two seasons, posting a 5.92 ERA (64 ER/97.1 IP) with 61 strikeouts compared to 22 walks. The right-hander made 18 appearances (1 start) for Chicago this season before being optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on June 19, going 1-2 with a 6.00 ERA (20 ER/30.0 IP) and 16 strikeouts with the White Sox. A third-round pick of the Reds in 2008, Stewart has gone 18-14 with a 3.07 ERA (128 ER/375.0 IP) and 314 strikeouts in 101 career minor league games (57 starts) in the Cincinnati, Toronto and Chicago systems. Youkilis, 33, has hit .233 (34-for-146) with seven doubles, a triple, four home runs, 14 RBI and 25 runs in 42 games for the Red Sox this season. A three-time All-Star who was selected by the Red Sox in the eighth round of the 2001 First-Year Player Draft, Youkilis owns a .287 career average (961-for-3,352) with 239 doubles, 17 triples, 133 home runs, 564 RBI, 594 runs, 494 walks and 26 stolen bases in 953 career games with Boston. He holds the club record with 86 career hit by pitches. Youkilis won World Series titles with the club in 2004 and 2007, earned a Gold Glove in 2007 and was the 2008 AL recipient of the Hank Aaron Award. Tejeda, 22, has hit .262 (53-for-202) with 12 doubles, five home runs, 31 RBI, 18 runs, nine walks and two stolen bases in 51 games with Double-A Portland this season.
