With Chuck Hayes returning to the starting lineup as soon as Yao Ming did,
coach Jeff Van Gundy said he expects to stick with the current starters and
is sure he will not repeat his decision to start Steve Novak, as he did the
last time the Rockets were in Phoenix.
Van Gundy said he is committed to starting Hayes with Yao "unless I change my
mind."
"I would never box myself in," Van Gundy said. "I think one of man's greatest
rights is to change his mind. I don't know if I want to give them up and have
to commit here on March 11 that I would never change. I don't foresee
changes."
Novak got his only start in Phoenix, making two of five shots in 19 minutes
without getting a rebound.
"You can rule that one out," Van Gundy said. "That was not one of my finer
moments. Not because of him — but that was not one of my finer moments."
