Casey says McHale supports him

Dwane Casey said Kevin McHale has told him he will return for a second
season as the Timberwolves' coach.
Casey said McHale, the team's vice president of basketball operations,
gave him his support a couple of weeks ago.
"We've talked about it," Casey said Sunday before the Wolves' 84-83 victory
over Atlanta at Target Center. "Kevin has said that I'm going to be back
next year. I take the man at his word."
That seems to clarify Casey's situation. It's the most definitive statement
to date regarding his job security.
The Wolves are 32-45 in Casey's first season and were mathematically
eliminated from playoff contention last week.
All-star forward Kevin Garnett and swingman Ricky Davis, the team's top
scorers, did not suit up for Sunday's game. Casey said he gave them the
day off to rest nagging injuries and because he's developing young players
for next season.
"I've been told that we're going to be here next year, that we're in this
together," Casey said. "I'm on board with it. We're on the same page. We're
doing this to develop for me to coach next year."
A tights fight: Wolves forward Mark Madsen, who was suffering from a tight
left calf, wore tights for the first time this season to help keep his
legs warm. He said the tights helped him and that he plans to petition
the NBA to allow them next season, if necessary.
Briefly: Wolves assistant coach Vince Taylor returned after sitting out
Friday night's game against Utah because of a broken nose he suffered
last week.
