On Monday afternoon, Timberwolves guard Randy Foye spoke with Twin Cities'
media members regarding an incident with which he was involved on Monday
morning.
Foye was issued a citation for disorderly conduct. Foye clarified what
happened and his involvement in which he was just a a bystander. Below is his
conference call with the media.
RANDY FOYE STATEMENT
"I want to apologize to the fans and the Timberwolves organization because
this is totally not me. If you read certain things, it makes it out as if I
were involved (in the altercation). I was not involved at all. I wanted to
make that clear and wanted to apologize to my fans out there. That's not me
and it won't be me in the future, because I'm much smarter than that."
RANDY FOYE CONFERENCE CALL WITH THE MEDIA
Q: On what happened...
A: I was driving and there was arguing in the back between two family
members. I pulled over to try and settle them down. They got into a little
scuffle, so I told them to get out of the car. I stayed inside the car, the
police pulled up, and they just made sure everything was OK. They spoke to me
because I was still sitting in the car. Once they spoke to me, everything was
cool, and they just let us know what was going to happen. I wasn't arrested
at all.
Q: On if an arrest was made...
A: One of my family members was arrested because he didn't calm down when the
cops were speaking to him so they just took him from there. I was not
arrested. I was at the scene. I had nothing to do with the situation. I
basically tried to stop the situation and (the police) saw me there, spoke to
me and I went home.
Q: On if it was his vehicle...
A: It was my vehicle being driven. I (was with) family members.
Q: On if they were Foye's cousins?
A: Yes, younger cousins. People who I grew up with for 15-plus years. Two of
the guys got into a little altercation and started arguing. It was among
themselves. It wasn't among anyone else.
Q: On if he thought the police treated him unfairly because of who he is...
A: No, I think they did a good job how they handled the situation. I think
they did everything in their power to not make this seem as what it wasn't.
But I have a recognizable name, so once people got ahold of it...people
didn't even get details. They just saw my name. I wasn't involved, they just
knew it had something to do with some people who were associated with me, so
they made it a big story.
Q: On if it's frustrated to be linked to something he wasn't involved in...
A: It troubles me a lot. But I look at it as a positive. I would never put
myself in a situation like that. You just have family members around you who
(may not) understand the situation that you're in. I think that my family
didn't mean to do it. It (could happen) to anybody where your family gets
into it, and you try to be the peacekeeper. And at the end everyone comes
down on me because I'm the one with the name here.
Q: On if it was just a citation he received...
A: Yeah, I just have a ticket for making noise in a public place.
Q: On if there were any punches thrown by Foye...
A: No, I wasn't involved at all.
Q: On if one of the guys needed medical treatment...
A: Yeah, from the tussle, one of the guys got a bloody nose. They just
treated him and that was all, he came back home.
