[外電] Wolves: Even after loss, Foye dreaming big

Timberwolves guard Randy Foye staked out way early, well before the Rookie
Challenge game began Friday to kick off NBA All-Star Weekend, what would make
his time in this desert's neon oasis perfect.
"A successful trip for me would be me winning MVP [of the rookie-sophomore
game], KG winning MVP and then we come back and win 12 games in a row," Foye
had said. "That would be a great trip. You can't dream small. I wouldn't be
here if I dreamed small."
Foye's great trip turned into merely a good trip, given the rookie's 155-114
blowout loss in the exhibition between first- and second-year players at the
Thomas & Mack Center. The rookie from Villanova finished with 14 points on
7-for-12 shooting, seven assists and one turnover in 19-plus minutes.
"They knew what it was from the beginning, and they jumped on us," Foye said
of the sophomores. "Last year they lost, and they knew how you start off this
game."
Knicks rookie David Lee won the MVP award Foye sought, scoring 30 points on
14-for-14 shooting, grabbing 11 rebounds, dishing four assists and blocking
two shots. Golden State's Monta Ellis scored 28 in less than 22 minutes for
the winners. Utah's Paul Millsap and Memphis' Rudy Gay led the rookies with
22 each.
Said Foye: "I was trying to get a workout in, having all these days off. I
was actually out here playing, trying to win the game, but I was also trying
to get a workout in."
Foye wore a microphone for NBA.TV and admitted that his commentary will
require some editing. "In the beginning, it was R-rated," he said. "They
jumped on us and it was like, 'Aw ...' At the end, I saw it was a game and I
was hoping no one would get hurt."
Kevin Garnett was at the game, and Foye said that seven or eight Wolves in
all flew on Garnett's chartered jet to Las Vegas.
"He's definitely going to be one of the best, and if he's not, I'm going to
be very, very disappointed, knowing how hard the guy works," Garnett said of
Foye. "How well and how quick he's able to pick up on new schemes. And the
fact that he wants to be good. His ambition is over the top.
"We throw a lot of responsibility on him now. He's not there, but he's being
put in a situation where he has to do it. He's doing pretty well with it."
Going global
The NBA will announce at a news conference this morning that the Wolves will
be one of four teams participating in series of Europe games this fall.
Minnesota will hold its training camp in Istanbul and likely will play a game
against Turkey's national team. Then the Wolves will travel to London to face
the Boston Celtics in a preseason game.
Pippen eyes comeback
Former Chicago Bulls star Scottie Pippen wants to return to the NBA for a
chance to win his seventh championship ring. The 41-year-old Pippen announced
he's hoping to join a contending team -- preferably in a warm-weather city.
"I know that I have the skills," he said. "It's sort of been on my mind the
last couple of months."
Pippen hasn't played since his retirement on Oct. 5, 2004, following a
17-season career. He won six titles alongside Michael Jordan with the Bulls.
