[外電] Foye's innocence affirmed

From the beginning, Timberwolves rookie Randy Foye said he had done nothing
wrong. Turns out the city of Minneapolis agrees.
The assistant city attorney informed Foye by letter that the citation he had
been issued in connection with a Feb. 12 scuffle had been dismissed.
It happened in the early morning hours. Foye was driving with three family
members when he pulled his SUV into the parking lot of a South Minneapolis
gas station after two in the party began arguing. Police responded at about
2:40 a.m., interviewed the four men and issued Foye and two others
misdemeanor citations for disorderly conduct.
Foye said at the time he had done nothing wrong, and the decision to dismiss
the citation confirms that.
"I told everyone from the beginning what was going on," Foye said before
Tuesday's 117-107 double-overtime victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. "And I
know most people believed me. But a lot of people didn't. But the facts came
out, so it's over and I'm happy.
"It's good to have it all out, all done. Now I can just focus on playing."
A big opportunity
For the first time this season, Marko Jaric found himself in the starting
lineup. Jaric lost his starting point guard position last January when Marcus
Banks took over not long after the trade with Boston, though Jaric did start
three of the final four games of last season at the off-guard/small forward
position.
Tuesday he started in place of the injured Trenton Hassell. Coach Randy
Wittman chose Jaric over Rashad McCants because McCants is still a little
rusty in his comeback from knee surgery and because Jaric gives the Wolves
more of a defensive presence.
He made the most of it. Jaric was one of a group of Wolves players who took
their turn on Lakers star Kobe Bryant. Jaric finished with 12 points on
5-for-8 shooting, had three rebounds, five assists, two steals and three
blocks, including one on Kwame Brown near the end of regulation.
"He was fired up about playing," Wittman said. "He was a big part of
[guarding Bryant]."
Board meeting
The team talked about it on Monday, hoping for results Tuesday: In Friday's
loss to Utah the Wolves managed a season-low 25 rebounds. Sunday in a
double-overtime loss in Boston, the Wolves were outrebounded 57-27, the worst
margin in franchise history.
There are mitigating circumstances. Mark Madsen, one of the team's big men,
is out with an ankle injury. Hassell joined him after turning an ankle early
in Sunday's game.
Then Wittman was forced to put Kevin Garnett -- who entered Tuesday's game
with Los Angeles as the league's leading rebounder -- on Paul Pierce, which
took Garnett away from the paint.
All that said, there has to be improvement.
And, Tuesday, there was. The Wolves outrebounded the Lakers 58-46. And that
total included 16 on the offensive end. The total was just three shy of the
team's season high.
Etc.
‧ Madsen appears closer to returning to the lineup than Hassell. If he has
not shown significant improvement by Thursday, Hassell likely will miss the
Wolves' two-game road trip Friday and Saturday.
