McHale was asked if he regrets trading the rights to Brandon Roy, the NBA
rookie of the year, to the Portland Trail Blazers for Randy Foye at the 2006
draft.
"I like Randy Foye, and again, I always like people that are going to
determine a guy's career after one year," McHale said. "That's always
interesting to me. My rookie year [1980-81], there was guy named Darrell
Griffith that was rookie of the year. Damon Stoudamire was rookie of the year
Kevin Garnett's rookie year [1995-96]. First year means how much you play.
Brandon Roy's a very nice basketball player. Brandon Roy played 37 minutes on
average, Randy Foye played 22 minutes on average. That's just absolute apples
and oranges."
