As the Timberwolves' season draws to a close, the team still has some work to
do on and off the court.
Owner Glen Taylor, interviewed at halftime of Minnesota's 110-87 loss to the
Denver Nuggets on Sunday night at Target Center, said he still expects Kevin
McHale to return as coach next season but that McHale hasn't told him he would.
Taylor also said the team will have a general manager-type to head up
basketball operations, ending the committee-style approach it has used in
recent seasons.
"We're going to have one person that will be at the top," Taylor said.
"We've interviewed quite a few people."
Asked if that person will come from inside or outside the organization, Taylor
said: "We're interviewing inside and outside. I'd say we're pretty much done
with it."
Since McHale gave up his position as vice president of basketball operations
to become coach on Dec. 8, his front-office duties have been divided among
general manager Jim Stack, assistant GM Fred Hoiberg and others.
Taylor said he expects to fill the front-office position within a couple of
weeks after the end of the season and reiterated that McHale returning to his
former job is not an option.
"He's not one of the candidates," Taylor said.
Taylor has said more than once that he expects McHale to return as coach,
but McHale has consistently declined to commit to anything beyond this season.
Taylor wouldn't discuss what the team might do if McHale decides not to
continue.

Taylor希望他們在季後幾個禮拜內能搞定行政事務的分配,
並表明他希望McHale擔任教練一職,可是McHale似乎不願...
在行政總管方面,Taylor希望另找他人。

"I expect him to, but it's not based upon any conversation that I've had with
him," Taylor said. "I haven't asked him."
With rookie Kevin Love sidelined by the flu, the undermanned Wolves didn't do
anything Sunday night to make McHale want to come back.
Led by Carmelo Anthony's 23 points, the playoff-bound Nuggets (52-26) built
a 20-point halftime advantage and led by as many as 32 in beating Minnesota for
the ninth consecutive time and sweeping the four-game season series.
Sebastian Telfair had 18 points, and Rodney Carney added 16 for the Wolves
(22-55), who in McHale's estimation didn't put up much of a fight.
"I thought we gave in at times," he said.
"There are times when we just do not go out there and give the second and third
and fourth effort that it takes when you're undermanned. And that's what you've
got to do."
Love's absence left the Wolves without four of their top six scorers, including
center Al Jefferson, guard Randy Foye and forward Craig Smith.
Even so, McHale said it was no excuse for his team's lack of effort.
"If you're not quite as talented as them, you'd better outwork them," he said.
"You can't be out-talented and outworked."
Telfair conceded that the Wolves probably could have played harder, but he
disagreed with the notion that the team has given up.
"We're not giving up," he said. "We're not going to ever give up. We were
undermanned today. We didn't really have it. I don't think we had enough."
Telfair cited Minnesota's 103-102 victory at Utah on Friday night as evidence
the Wolves are still playing hard with just five games left. With so many
players out, though, he said they can't even run some plays in their offense.
"Big Hoss went down, we've been riding the Pony," he said, referring to
Jefferson and Love, respectively. "Pony down, we went to the Rhino (Smith).
Rhino down ... I don't know. I guess next game we're going to have to feed
the Dog."
That would be veteran forward Mark "Mad Dog" Madsen, who went scoreless in
just under 15 minutes Sunday.
Chauncey Billups scored 17 points for the Nuggets, and Linas Kleiza had 14.
Next for the Wolves is a two-game road trip Tuesday at the Los Angeles Clippers
and Wednesday at Golden State.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
