[外電] Kahn wants call on Ridnour reviewed
Kahn wants call on Ridnour reviewed

Turns out the story on that traveling call on Luke Ridnour at the end of
Monday's game has legs.
The Timberwolves were down a point with 10.3 seconds left at Boston when they
inbounded the ball. Ridnour got the ball in stride and went to the hoop. His
shot was blocked out of bounds by Ray Allen. But the Wolves didn't get
another chance because Ridnour was called for traveling.
Ridnour insists he didn't travel. Now President of Basketball Operations
David Kahn wants the league to tell him whether it was a good call or not.
Kahn confirmed he intends to send tape of the play into the league for a
review.
"I don't think we've done it yet, but I'd like to," Kahn said. "I'd like the
league to tell us, is it or isn't it [traveling]? I do feel that it was
close."
Kahn said he isn't making any kind of a formal protest. He just wants to hear
what the league thinks. "I watched it several times the next day," he said.
"When I was watching it live, I thought to myself, 'Yeah, he probably did.'
Then when I watched the film, it doesn't look like he did. Obviously it was a
tough one."
All-Star potential
When center Darko Milicic signed a four-year deal with a guarantee of at
least $16 million early in free agency, Kahn was roundly criticized for
throwing money at a player generally considered to be a bust.
But slowly, as the season has progressed and Milicic has played well, some of
that criticism has mellowed; before Monday's game, ESPN.com writer Bill
Simmons -- one of Kahn's most vocal detractors -- came up to him and said he
had put Milicic on his fantasy team.
However, when Kahn went on the Wolves' TV broadcast that night and said he
thought Milicic could be an All-Star in the near future, much of that
criticism returned. Still, Kahn reiterated that opinion before Wednesday's
game.
"We expect more from him," Kahn said. "I think there's more still to come.
Much of that will be dependent on Darko, meaning how much he continues to
work at this, and how badly he wants it. And I think he wants it."
His All-Star prediction is due in part to the relative paucity of
high-quality centers in the Western Conference. But it is also based on his
assessment of Milicic, who entered Wednesday's game averaging 9.3 points, 2.3
blocks and 5.2 rebounds per game. He sees a more mature player than the one
drafted second overall by Detroit in 2003.
"He and I talked frankly about it," Kahn said. "Some of the things that
occurred in Detroit were his fault, the way he conducted himself off the
court. Some of the things weren't his fault. He was chosen by a team with a
huge amount of frontcourt talent, a veteran team competing for a
championship."
But if Milicic continues to work and keep his learning curve steep? Kahn
wouldn't be surprised by an All-Star berth as soon as next season.
"Look at the way he's played," Kahn said.
Etc.
‧ Wolves coach Kurt Rambis is still pointing toward a Sunday return for
Anthony Tolliver, assuming a recheck of his right knee goes well. Tolliver
had been lobbying to return Friday.
‧ Center Kosta Koufos, whose nose was broken awhile back by an errant elbow
from teammate Martell Webster, got hit in the head again Tuesday by Tolliver.
This time his jaw got the brunt of the blow. "There is something about
Kosta's head that has a magnet for contact," Rambis said.
‧ All of the Wolves' regional scouts are in town for three days of meetings.
