The NBA lockout has been killing morale all over. Being a writer, it’s hard to findsomething new to write about each and ever week. The ideas become less and less frequent,and the quality of work drops as well. All there is, is the idea that the future is bright. And, that’s what the Minnesota Timberwolves have. After firing coach Kurt Rambis, the future is cloudy in the direct direction that the organization will be heading, but there’s really only up to go to. Minnesota already has one star in the works with Kevin Love. They drafted Wes Johnson last year as a top-five pick, and the future looks for him as well. Well, the Timberwolves finally have Ricky Rubio in the United States territory and a Minnesota jersey. Oh yeah…they also took Derrick Williams with the second pick in the draft.Williams。 Saying that this quartet, along with Michael Beasley, Darko Milicic, and others has potential is an understatement. They have tons of potential but it’ll be time before Minnesota sees the dividends. The first main issue that this team needs to address is positioning. David Kahn stated in June that he thinks many of his players can play multiple positions. And, that’s fine, but each player needs a designated spot and role in order to function properly. Having Williams and Rubio helps that. Ricky Rubio is a point guard, the purest of the bunch. There’s never a question of if Rubio can play point guard at the next level. His game translates amazingly in the NBA because of his passing ability and all of the intangibles that he has in his repertoire. He will be the starting point guard this coming season because Minnesota have put all their eggs in the basket with Rubio after trading Jonny Flynn. Rubio will obviously make mistakes in his rookie season. While Rubio’s name has been talked about for a few years now, he is still only 20 years old. With Beasley getting into the news this week, he will have more pressure on his because there’s a beast named Derrick Williams ready for his turn to be a second overall pick that deserves it. When Beasley was drafted a coupleyears ago, it was a pure potential pick because of the maturity that Beasley lacks. Even though he has worked on it in Minneapolis, he has a lot more to do. So, that’s where Williams comes in. Scouts drool over Williams because he is not only extremely athletic, but he knows how to play the game of basketball with the best of them. Having Kevin Love enjoying being a power forward, it looks like Williams will have to play small forward, which will be a mismatch against many teams. Williams will be able to contribute to the team right away, but he will also have to be battling for minutes against a lot of talented players. It’s a decent estimate to think that Williams could score about 12 to 15 points a game, but he could be 18 if he gets amble playing time. Rubio, on the other hand, should score around 10 and get seven to nine assists a game.
