GT: When the season is over, Rick will have more time to think about Mary Kay's health. He hasn't said anything to me about his future, and I haven't asked him or pushed him on that. Mary Kay will be his priority, and I understand that. We'll talk about it at the appropriate time. It's on him rather than me, but I told him I will give him all the support he needs. We're hopeful that Mary Kay continues to make progress. We're planning as if he will be back next year. PP: If Adelman decides to step down, do you have a contingency plan in place? GT: Not yet. PP: Terry Porter filled in for Adelman for 11 games when Adelman was away from the team. Is Porter your choice to take over if Adelman leaves? GT: Not sure about that. If Rick were to leave, I would want to think about all options we have available to us. GT: I haven't come up with anybody who meets all the needs. One of my problems is that I haven't found anybody who lives in Minnesota or has a Minnesota background. Right now, I don't have a strong feeling that I want to get rid of the team. I still enjoy it. I have a coach and I have a GM. Me and Flip have not talked about those things. What we talk about mostly is his work at ESPN and what's going on in the league. I have maintained a friendship with Flip. When he tells me he wants to stay, I take him for his word, but agents play a big role in all of this. PP: Will you personally get involved in Pekovic's negotiations if necessary? GT: It's not the way we would start out, but if it means getting a quicker and fairer deal done, I would. We're out of the money this year (approximately $5 million), but based on the contract we have, we don't have to pay him next year if he doesn't play. PP: Did you ever get the sense that Roy would return to the lineup? GT: He sure sounded like a guy who thought he could do it. You trust his word. When I talked to him in December, he was under the assumption he would be back in a couple of weeks (after Nov. 19 surgery on his right knee), and he was telling other people the same things. I talked to him a month ago and I could tell he had given up, that he wasn't going to try a comeback. He seemed very mature. I thought he would bring a lot of leadership to our team, but it was tough for him to do that when he wasn't playing. PP: Do you want the team's medical and training staff to monitor Love's offseason workout program? GT: I'm not worried about Kevin. He has told me, 'I'm going to be in as good a shape and fit as I've ever been.' He has talked to our people about what he's going to do in the offseason. It sounds aggressive and stimulating.
