Emerging as a prospect early in his prep career averaging 5 points per game at the 2015 FIBA U16 Americas Championship, Nowell finished his career at Garfield High School widely regarded as one of the top-70 prospects in the class of 2017. Made an instant impact at the college level averaging 16 points and 4 rebounds per game as a freshman at Washington under Mike Hopkins. Averaging 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.1 assists as a sophomore for the Huskies, Nowell showed marked improvement as a shooter to earn Pac-12 Player of the Year honors and guided his team to the NCAA Tournament. 得分型後衛，升上大二後，在各個環節都有顯著成長。最早於2015年 U16美洲盃冒出頭，高中畢業後，名列2017梯次前70名招募名單。大二的成績讓他獲得Pac-12年度最佳球員殊榮，並帶領學校進入三月瘋。 Has good size for a scoring guard measured at 6’4.25 in shoes at the Draft Combine to go along with a solid 6’7.25 wingspan and a strong 202-pound frame.
