選擇Harrison的原因:還考慮過Roddick, Querry, Young and Sweeting。 這次也有兩名年輕選手 當培練員,分別是Kudla與Austin Krajicek(Austin其實大Harrison兩歲)。 U.S. Davis Cup Team Adds Harrison to Replace Fish By CHRISTOPHER CLAREY Published: April 2, 2012 A teenager until next month, Ryan Harrison is unexpectedly a key member of the United States Davis Cup team that will face France in a quarterfinal beginning Friday at Monte Carlo Country Club. Harrison, 19, was named to replace the top-ranked American player, Mardy Fish, who chose not to make the transatlantic journey, citing extreme fatigue after a draining and largely frustrating start to the season. Harrison will join John Isner in the American singles lineup, with Bob and Mike Bryan to play doubles. “Ryan’s certainly hungry for it, and he’s had a pretty decent year so far, ” said Jim Courier, the United States captain, in a telephone interview from France. “He hasn’t had great draws, but Ryan’s playing better, getting better, and he’s a guy we’re going to use a lot in the future. This is a great shot for him and for me to spend some time together and hopefully for him to play really well this weekend.” Fish, 30, told Courier he could not play last Friday after consulting with physicians in Florida. Still ranked ninth, Fish has struggled to replicate the form that lifted him into the top 10 last year. After hinting at a resurgence by winning three rounds at the just-completed Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Fla., he relapsed in an erratic quarterfinal loss to Juan Monaco. “His body checked out on him the other night,” said John Tobias, Fish’s agent, in a telephone interview. Tobias said Fish began having “funny feelings” that concerned him at his hotel on Thursday night after the match. “Mardy asked me not get into the specific symptoms,” Tobias said. “But they were extreme enough for him to see a doctor that evening and then get some tests done from a second doctor the following morning in Vero Beach.” According to Tobias, doctors found no linkage to the thyroid condition that slowed Fish down early last season. “He checked out healthy this time,” Tobias said. “They couldn’t find anything. The doctors chalked it up to extreme fatigue and stress. The guy’s worn himself down and needs to take time off.” Fish, who is based in California, could not be reached for comment, but in a statement, he said he did not expect to need more than a few days’ rest and might play in next week’s clay-court event in Houston. “I’m not worried about Mardy; I don’ t think it’s anything life-threatening or career-threatening,” Courier said. “It’s just a precautionary move, but we both know he made the right choice not to come here.” Harrison, well-mannered off the court but fiery on it, has long been one of the country’s best prospects. An all-court player with an attacking bent, he won a Davis Cup match against Switzerland in February after the team already clinched the victory. But Harrison, ranked 66th, will be expected to play two live singles matches on the red clay of Monte Carlo Country Club, which is located, despite its name, just outside the principality of Monaco in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France. Courier had other options when Fish decided to withdraw. Courier’s alternatives included Sam Querrey, Ryan Sweeting, Donald Young and, above all, Andy Roddick, the pillar of the American team for a decade who has now dropped to No. 29th. Roddick upset Roger Federer at the Sony Ericsson Open last week. Courier said Harrison was his first choice because Harrison was the best prepared at this stage to handle the rigors of best-of-five-set matches. Courier said Roddick, who complained about his own fitness in Key Biscayne, supported the decision. “Physically, Ryan has no issues, and that’s obviously a huge factor,” Courier said. “That was probably my No. 1 factor.” Harrison will also be, by far, the lowest-ranked singles player in this quarterfinal. Isner has risen to No. 11 after reaching the final of the Masters 1000 event last month in Indian Wells, Calif. France’s singles players are expected to be sixth-ranked Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and 13th-ranked Gilles Simon, who was named to replace Gaël Monfils on Monday after Monfils withdrew with an abdominal injury. Monfils, a French Open semifinalist in 2008, is France’s most accomplished player on clay, but clay is the big-hitting Tsonga’s weakest surface. Though Simon is a quick, tenacious and deep-thinking counterpuncher, he has struggled in Davis Cup, winning just one of six live singles matches. He also has had recurring back pain this season, but he defeated Harrison in Indian Wells before losing in three sets to Isner. Guy Forget, the French captain, chose Simon as a substitute ahead of Richard Gasquet, a more established clay-court threat. The result of Monday’s lineup shifting is that this quarterfinal, the latest French-American duel in a Cup rivalry that dates to 1905, is particularly difficult to parse. The French have more experience and the home-court advantage at a club where no American man has won a regular tour title outright since Hugh Stewart in 1956. But the Bryans remain the world’s top doubles team, and Isner upset Federer on indoor clay during the Cup’s first round and last year became the first man to extend the clay-court master Rafael Nadal to five sets at the French Open. “We’re going to have our chances,” Courier said. “Clearly we’re a favorite anytime the Bryans step on the court, and the way that John has been playing recently I like his chances against anyone.” ※ 編輯: wuliaude 來自: 140.109.140.111 (04/03 13:00)
