The Jazz had three picks in the first round and kept two. They got aggressive
and talented forward Kris Humphries to shore up their front line and Kirk
Snyder, a terrific shooting guard from Nevada with a body that brings to mind
a young Larry Johnson. Humphries left after just one year at Minnesota and the
rap on him is an oppressive father who made him a selfish player. One would
think Jerry Sloan would take care of that very quickly. Snyder, true, had a
selfish tag, but he seemed to play his way out of it as Nevada was one of
the sleeper teams to advance in the NCAA Tournament. He can be sloppy with
the ball, but the skills and shooting range are there. In between, they dealt
7-5 Pavel Podkolzine to Dallas for a future No. 1.
