Utah at Golden State - Oct. 30, 2007 - We Believe Part 2 The first regular season game will be a re-match from the second round of last year’s playoffs. The Utah Jazz proved to be too tough for the Cinderella story Warriors and now have the chance to get off to a quick start if they can continue their inside dominance. A few faces have changed from both teams as the Jazz will be without Derek Fisher, and the Warriors traded Jason Richardson on draft night in June. There are still plenty of great match ups like Deron Williams versus Baron Davis and Jerry Sloan versus Don Nelson. The Jazz run an efficient discipline style of basketball, and the Warriors run a 3-point shooting small ball team. Prediction: Baron Davis rising for another “dunk of the playoffs” moment only to be blocked by Andrei Kirilenko. The ball then bouncing harmlessly into Jessica Alba’s seats. #2. Lakers at Utah - Nov. 30, 2007 - D-Fish Returns To The ESA One thing that cannot be said enough is, "God bless the Fisher family." The Utah Jazz did the right thing in letting Derek Fisher out of his contract. Fisher, in turn, did the right thing by giving the Jazz an entire off-season to replace him. That being said, there are still plenty of conspiracy theorists who read deeper into Fisher’s motives. Some will boo, but most will show class. I, for one, will give him a standing ovation during player introductions. The only way I'll boo is if he hits a 3-pointer from the corner to win the game. Prediction: Too many Laker fans in the EnergySolutions Area. They really come out of the woodwork when the Lake Show is in town. #3. Utah at San Antonio - Dec. 7, 2007 - Feb. 28, 1999????? Has it really been that long since the Jazz were able to win a game in San Antonio? As much as it pains me to say this, that is a fact. This will be the first chance the Jazz have to put an end to that ridiculous streak. The Spurs provide such a difficult match-up in every position that it will be no easy task. However, I believe the Jazz players have this game marked on their calendars as a chance to prove themselves as one of the elite teams of the NBA. A road win here could be a major confidence builder and set the tone for the rest of the season. I think the question is, "will Deron Williams be able to raise the level of play of his teammates and carry them to victory?" Prediction: Jazz win and end the curse of San Antonio. Deron Williams records 30 points and 15 assists. Carlos Boozer adds 30 points and 15 rebounds. Oh, and Manu Ginobili flops about a few times. #4. Seattle at Utah - Dec. 15, 2007 - Rookie of the Year The NBA Draft Lottery this past June was very kind to the Northwest Division. Greg Oden to the Portland Trailblazers and Kevin Durant to the Seattle SuperSonics. Good news, bad news for the Utah Jazz. The good news is Jazz fans will have plenty of opportunity to watch these young players develop. The bad news is when these players do develop, the Jazz will have their hands full. Kevin Durant was the most exciting college player in the nation last year, and this will be the first chance Jazz fans have to see him up close and personal. I love watching the future of the league and would put seeing Durant somewhere between the LeBron James and Kirk Snyder levels on my rookie excitement scale. Prediction: Bad karma for the Sonics as they released former Utah Jazz assistant Gordon Chiesa from the coaching staff this past year. #5. Boston at Utah - Dec. 29, 2007 - The Big Ticket And Crew The Boston Celtics did more this off-season than any other team to reshape the face of their team by trading away most of their young talent to bring in proven veterans Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. This Celtics team has the most proven firepower of any team in the league with three bona fide All-Stars. The other player on their roster to watch is Esteban Batista who dominated the FIBA tournament for Uruguay this summer in Las Vegas. This team may only have a 1-2 year run due to the age of their players, but it should be a good ride while it lasts. Prediction: An increase in the sales of the movie Celtic Pride. The Jazz are dominant in that movie. #6. Phoenix at Utah - Jan. 10, 2008 - One And Only The Phoenix Suns will only make one visit to Utah this season, and Steve Nash is not getting any younger. Need I say more? Ok..this is another chance for the Jazz to prove they can play with the big boys in the league. There is one more thing to keep your eye on as this game approaches... Rumors around the league this summer had the Jazz and the Suns in trade discussions regarding Shawn Marion and Andrei Kirilenko. With this game occuring only one month before the NBA trade deadline, it would be an ideal time for those rumors to resurface as this could be a showcase game for both players. Prediction: Forgetful Jazz fans will shake bells every time former Jazzman Raja Bell hits a jumper. #7. Utah at Washington - Feb. 1, 2008 - Agent Zero Payback Gilbert Arenas is one of my favorite players in the NBA. Not only does he have the best nicknames in the game (Agent Zero and Hibachi), but he's a 2nd-round draft pick who has worked hard to make a name for himself in the league. He wears the number 0 because that is how many minutes he was told he would play in his collegiate career. For those of you who do not remember, last year he took a shot with two seconds left in the game against the Jazz, threw his arms in the air as soon as it left his hands, and hit the game winning 3-pointer. I would classify it as the most heart breaking regular season loss of last year’s season. This game will be the Jazz’s chance for a little redemption in D.C. Prediction: Gilbert Arenas guarding Deron Williams as he rises to hit the game winning jumper. #8. Dallas at Utah - Mar. 3, 2008 - Don’t Hassle the Hoff Germany’s own Dirk Nowitzki leads his Mavericks to the ESA for the last time this year. This late in the season, every game is important to both playoff seeding and confidence. Expect Dallas to play this season with a chip on their shoulder considering the embarrassing playoff exit they suffered at the hands of the Warriors. This is a team on a mission to prove they are more than regular season heroes. The Jazz will need to win games like this at home in order to secure a good first round playoff match up. It should be fun all the way around. Prediction: Multiple Shawn Bradley jersey sightings at the ESA. #9. Utah at Chicago - Mar. 11, 2008 - Last Eastern Road Trip This will be the first game of a difficult four-game Eastern Conference road trip (four games in five nights). Winning the first game on a long trip always seems to take some of the pressure off of a team. The Bulls are very similar to the Jazz in that they both are young “rebuilt” teams trying to grow into title contenders. It is good for the game when the Jazz and the Bulls are in the playoff hunt. If that does not get your juices flowing, keep in mind that Scott Skiles is going to let Ben Wallace wear his head band this year. Prediction: I will have two or three nightmares that week about Jordan pushing off on Russell. #10. Denver at Utah - Apr. 12, 2008 - NW Divison's Finest The Jazz will play their biggest competition in the Northwest Division once a month starting in January with this being the last game in their series. The results of these four games could easily be the difference between hosting a first round playoff match up or starting on the road. If Denver’s front court can stay healthy, and if Carmelo Anthony can stay out of trouble, the Nuggets will be a tough team to beat. If not, the Nuggets will continue to underachieve. Prediction: The Jazz win this game and finish the season a few nights later with a record of 55-27. Repeating as Northwest Division Champions and hosting a first round playoff series. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 210.64.84.128
