Hornacek interviewed with Chicago and Phoenix, but the jobs ultimately went to Vinny Del Negro and Terry Porter. As a result, Hornacek is back for his second season as a part-time shooting coach with the Jazz. Working with Hornacek before practices last season, Andrei Kirilenko shot a career-best 50.6 percent and 37.9 percent on three-pointers. "Now he's got to say, 'OK, I'm going to step it up even more,'" Hornacek said. "I love to work with Jeff," Kirilenko said. "He's a great mentor and I think I'm improving when I'm working with him." Hornacek will continue to commute from Phoenix and meet up with the Jazz during the season. With his kids still in school, Hornacek said the "timing's probably still not great" to be a full-time assistant. He also said reports about becoming Doug Collins' top assistant in Chicago were premature. "Once I talked to them, all that stuff kind of came up fast with Doug," Hornacek said. "They never really talked about that." Full squad Although the Jazz have 15 players with guaranteed contracts going into the season, coach Jerry Sloan didn't think it would hurt competition at training camp. Sloan said his players were excited at Tuesday's morning practice, adding, "Mr. [Larry] Miller's always said - and I've had a case or two over the years that I've been here - that that doesn't guarantee jobs." Briefly After their busy Olympic summers, Deron Williams, Carlos Boozer and Kirilenko were held out of morning practice. . . .
