真是超意外的驚喜呀 有holdsclaw耶 原本還沒有打算要買的 衝著封面有些一條ben wallace就買了 真是賺到 p.44 因為只有一頁 就偷偷節錄... 有空再翻 呵 IN YOUR FACE [LOVING THE GAME] CHAMIQUE HOLDSCLAW This wasn't the way things were supposed to go. Not for her. Chamique Holdsclaw needing a new start? Leaving the Washington Mystics without earning a WNBA title or MVP award? Unthinkable. But that's what transpired in March, when the Mystics traded the 27-year-old forward to the Los Angeles Sparks for DeLisha Milton-Jones and a first-round pick. Holdsclaw, fresh off a stint playing for Ros Casares Valencia in Spain, was still in Europe when the deal went down. A lot has changed since the fall of '98, when Mique was on the cover of SLAM 29, a skinny girl in an oversized Knicks jersey with her name on the back. She was about to start her senior season in Tennessee, having added three consecutive NCAA titles to the four state titles she won as a high schooler in Queens. She didn't win that year but was still the No. 1 pick in the '99 WNBA Draft. She would've been the first pick as a junior, but she chose not to challenge WNBA rules. She graduated, coming throughon a promise she'd made to her grandmother, June. After so much early success, her championship drought continued in the pros. Holdsclaw was ROY, but the Comets won that year's title. Expected to reinvent the women's game, Chamique did play well-an All-star her first five seasons, winnig Olympic gold in '00 and leading the WNBA in points and rebounds in '02- but she couldn't lift the Mystics into contention. In her first five seasons, Holdsclaw saw just seven playoff games. Then, last season, it all fell apart. Holdsclaw's beloved grandmother had passed on suddenly a year before, and Chamique held it together, playing just days afterward. But when her grandfather died last May, the girl who always knew where she was going lost her way, buried under a crushing wave of depression. She missed the final third of the '04 season, during which rookie Alana Beard led the Mystics to the playoffs. She changed her cell number, cut virtually everyone off. The one who was supposed to change the game even considered leaving it for good. Instead she sought help. Found it. Rediscovered her passion. So, new beginnings. In a few short weeks, She'll join Lisa Leslie in forming the W's most formidable front line, and the Sparks should be among the favorites to win it all. Mostly, though, we hope Chamique is back playing the game she loves, and loving the game she plays. -RUSS BENGSTON -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 218.34.89.72 ※ 編輯: kzero0 來自: 218.34.89.72 (05/22 23:29)
