Venus released the following statement regarding her withdrawal from the
tournament in Moscow:
"I am disappointed that I will not have the opportunity to compete in Moscow
again this year. I have had great experiences there and look forward to
returning. Since my knee injury in Beijing, I have been advised by medical
professionals to take this time off to rest and rehabilitate. I have
reluctantly accepted this advice as I realize that I could otherwise risk
further injury."
