http://soccernet.espn.go.com/report?id=167158&cc=4716 Sunday, October 24, 2004 PA UDINE, October 24 (Serie A) - Udinese and Fiorentina played out an entertaining draw in a keenly-contested midtable Serie A match on Sunday. Fabrizio Miccoli was the hero of the contest with two excellent goals for the visitors from Tuscany. Miccoli scored the first goal of the day but goals from Stefano Mauri and Nestor Sensini then put the home side ahead. Italian international Miccoli then delivered the equaliser to ensure honours were even at the Stadio Friuli. Udinese have struggled at home and have failed to find them the form that gained them qualification for the UEFA Cup last season. They came into the match with only one win in the three previous home games. Fiorentina's away form has been less than spectacular this term and they have not yet triumphed away from Florence this season. With both teams level on points and one place separating the two teams this game was an encounter where defeat meant a likely place in the relegation zone for either side. As early as the second minute Udinese's David Di Michele was played in by Marek Jankulowski but he lacked composure in front of goal and shot wide. Fiorentina responded immediately and two minutes later the talented Enzo Maresca saw his effort parried by goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis. The rebound came back to the feet of Maresca but he couldn't convert that chance either. Miccoli then decided to dictate proceedings and put his side ahead with a superb piece of skill after 15 minutes. After a neat passage of play by Fiorentina the ball arrived to Miccoli, who instantly controlled it on his chest before firing a laser-guided volley into the net. Fiorentina's joy was short lived as Udinese found an equaliser two minutes later from Mauri who netted his third goal of the season The goal came from a Jankulowski corner which Mauri expertly volleyed home. Udinese had two further chances to take the lead before half time, but Di Michele was denied on both occasions. Six minutes into the second half Udinese took the lead after an awful mistake by the away side's defence. Fiorentina goalkeeper Cristiano Lupatelli fumbled a low cross into the path of veteran Argentinian defender Sensini who scored from close range. Miccoli though was not prepared to meekly surrender and still had one moment of magic left in his box of tricks. After receiving the ball on the edge of the area, he flicked it up with his right foot and delivered a heavenly volley with his left foot to level the game. Miccoli's magic almost proved to be in vain when in the 82nd minute Antonio Di Natale failed to convert a brilliant chance for Udinese. A draw for both of these teams was not the desired result and it keeps them in the lower regions of the table.
