Rimini 1-2 Fiorentina
Fiorentina were given quite a scare by Rimini, the club they challenged for
Serie C2 promotion only three years ago. The side that has made the step up
to the Second Division this season took the first half lead with Motta’s
penalty for a William Viali handling offence and it took until the 82nd
minute for the Viola to draw level through Luca Toni, also from the spot.
That foul on Giampaolo Pazzini cost Digao a red card, soon to be followed by
Giuseppe Pancaro for a second bookable offence. In extra time Toni’s goal
was disallowed for a handling offence and Tomas Ujfalusi rattled the
crossbar, but with penalties looming Marco Donadel netted the winner in the
final seconds on the ex-Palermo striker’s assist. Fiorentina will go on to
face Cesena in the Third Round.
