Luca Toni was impressed by teammate Giampaolo Pazzini's performance with the
Under-21s at the new Wembley on Saturday.
The Azzurrini starlet scored a hat-trick in the 3-3 draw with England at the
renovated venue's inaugural competitive match, netting his first goal within
29 seconds.
「I must be careful, he might steal my place,」 grinned Toni in an interview
with Sky Italia.
「I'm happy for him, he deserves it. I spoke to him and complimented him, he
deserves this because he is a great player and a great person.
「Is he ready for the Nazionale? Let's wait a while. He is very strong, he
just needs to play with continuity to show all his qualities.」
Toni is not worried that the hat-trick might go to Pazzini's head, despite
the enthusiasm following his performance in a historic stadium such as
Wembley.
「I will take care of him, I am his big brother and therefore I would scold
him if that were to happen. He has a nice family in the background and I am
confident that he will not have those kind of problems,」 concluded the world
champion.
In the meantime, La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that Toni is set to leave
the Viola at the end of the season, despite his latest statements that he
might end his career in Florence.
The striker is believed to be tempted by a move to Juventus and his current
house has been put up for sale, according to the Italian newspaper.
