Plans in place at the club suggest that they are working towards building a team which could fight for major honours by the end of the decade, but that may be too late for the playmaker. 「I have a contract in place until 2008, but if this side is being constructed for 2010 then I might not be here,」 stated the midfielder. 「I am hoping that I will get a contract renewal on a yearly basis from now on, even if we will just have to wait and see what happens,」 added the 31-year-old. 「However, I do think that this club can one day battle for the Scudetto. It is not down to just the size of your pay-per-view television contract, but numerous other factors – including a little bit of luck…」 The Rome-born star has been a regular fixture in Serie A since he joined Perugia from Serie C1 side Viterbese in the summer of 2000. He underlined his skills in Umbria and did enough to earn a massive ￡7m transfer to Lazio in September 2001.
