The temperamental talent's personality has gotten him into more trouble this week, as he was dropped from the squad travelling abroad for pre-season training and so refused to turn up to his planned individual session. New Coach Bernd Schuster does not consider the Italian part of his plans, but a return to Serie A is less likely with Milan, Inter and Napoli unwilling to take on such a problematic player. The one exception might well be Fiorentina and in particular their tactician Cesare Prandelli. 「I would like to help Cassano become an extraordinary player. I am convinced we could do great things together,」 said the boss back in January. 「He belongs at Fiorentina. If it weren't for all the wonderful strikers we've already got here, I would snap him up immediately,」 added transfer guru Pantaleo Corvino. Since then Luca Toni has joined Bayern Munich and Under-21 international Giampaolo Pazzini has not shown the maturity needed to take the reins. Christian Vieri is another addition to the squad, although with Reginaldo leaving for Parma and Valeri Bojinov on the market, there is still another space open for Cassano. It's reported the former Roma player is considered such a problem that Real Madrid would gladly let him go for free, but the main obstacle is his contract. Real Madrid have given clear indications that they are looking to offload the former Bari prodigy, most recently and obviously when he was left to stew in Spain while the rest of the squad prepared for the upcoming season at their Austrian training camp. Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli has gone on record with his belief that he can bring the best of Cassano, who has come to epitomize football's version of the 『disturbed genius'. The 25-year-old left Roma for Real Madrid in controversial circumstances in January 2006, but despite some early promise his reputation and popularity amongst Real fans began to nosedive as a result of his tempestuous attitude and apparent lack of professionalism. If the Viola were to take a risk on Cassano, then chances are that he would arrive as a replacement for another 『Enfant Terrible'.
