Fiorentina and Italy defender Alessandro Gamberini is hoping to return to the
field in 20 days after dislocating his shoulder at the weekend.
Gamberini landed awkwardly on his right shoulder in the first few minutes of
Italy's World Cup qualifying win against Cyprus in Larnaca on Saturday night,
and he was immediately substituted in some distress.
The 27-year-old was then taken to hospital with a shoulder dislocation, and
indeed had to have an anaesthetic to correct the problem.
It has since been estimated that Gamberini will miss seven games for his club
side Fiorentina, but the stopper is hoping to be back in 20 days.
「I'm hoping to return to action in 20 or so days, but unfortunately it won't
be easy,」 said the former Bologna man.
「I'm going back to Florence to begin the recovery process with the Viola
medical team but there is still a lot to think about because I have been told
that this kind of problem can recur.
「It's a shame that I have had this problem during such a crucial time for
Fiorentina and Italy but I will be back soon stronger than ever.」
Naturally, Gamberini has now left the Italy camp ahead of the World Cup
qualifier against Georgia on Wednesday night, and national team coach
Marcello Lippi has opted against calling up a replacement.
