The Colombian winger has been such a decisive player for the Viola in recent seasons and so important to the way they play that it was feared the team could suffer from an on-pitch hangover in his absence. This allowed the Viola to leapfrog Samp into fourth place, but they are still seven points off Napoli in third after Rafa Benitez’s side continue their strong form with a 3-1 win over Udinese. Juventus beat Milan 3-1 in the weekend’s showcase clash. Luca Antonelli scored on his Milan debut but the result was marred by an ongoing war of words surrounding Carlos Tevez’s goal, which was shown as both onside and offside in different television replays. Roma got back to winning ways as Daniele Verde starred in a 2-1 win over Cagliari, and a Mauro Icardi double helped Inter to a 3-0 win over Palermo to end their run of defeats.
