Stewart, Calero the heroes in A's victory 雙劍合璧,綠帽勝利 Reliever holds down Giants; pinch-hit single delivers win 火牛陣技高一籌,代打建功贏巨人 By Mychael Urban / MLB.com SAN FRANCISCO -- On Thursday, he spoiled Curt Schilling's no-hitter with a two-out single in the bottom of the ninth inning, and he came up with another dramatic knock Friday at AT&T Park. But while it was Shannon Stewart's two-out, two-run, pinch-hit single in the 10th inning that gave the visiting A's a 5-3 victory over the rival Giants in the opener of a three-game Interleague series, it never would have happened were it not for what Oakland hopes was a springboard of an outing from righty reliever Kiko Calero. Calero, who entered the series with an 0-3 record, two blown saves and a 6.91 ERA over his previous 18 games, entered this game with the bases loaded and one out -- then fell behind in the count, 3-0, to Ray Durham. After pouring a get-me-over fastball in for a strike, Calero, who relies almost exclusively on his slider, threw the exact same pitch. "I was thinking he was going to take one more pitch," Calero admitted. Instead, Durham took a hack and skied a popup to second baseman Mark Ellis. That freed Calero from the mental straightjacket he's been wearing for several weeks, and he responded by striking out pinch-hitter Kevin Frandsen. "He really showed me something there," A's manager Bob Geren said. "That was just huge." As was Oakland's ability to make the most of what amounted to a mulligan for its inability to take the lead in the eighth. In that frame, Dan Johnson led off with a double, moved to third on a groundout by Bobby Crosby and was stranded there; Mark Kotsay's one-hop smash was smothered by Giants first baseman Ryan Klesko, and Jason Kendall flied out to right field. Johnson opened the 10th with a double, too, and pinch-runner Donnie Murphy moved to third on another groundout by Crosby. Kotsay then hit another one-hop rocket to Klesko, who threw home to peg Murphy, who knocked backup catcher Eliezer Alfonzo out of the game. That forced Giants third baseman Pedro Feliz to strap on the catcher's gear for the first time in his career, and outfielder Randy Winn had to come in to play third base. Pitcher Noah Lowry took over in right field. After a lengthy delay, Kendall singled Kotsay to third with a perfectly executed hit-and-run, and after Kendall took second base on defensive indifference, Stewart did his thing. How 'bout that one?" Johnson said of the three-hour, 42-minute adventure. "That was a great baseball game," Geren said. "You couldn't ask for anything more as a baseball fan. There was a little bit of everything tonight." Geren說:"這是一場棒球比賽,不以一眚掩大德" including more dominance from A's righty Chad Gaudin. The other budding star in a mound matchup that featured 22-year-old rookie Tim Lincecum of the Giants, Gaudin thoroughly outpitched his heralded counterpart before watching the 3-1 lead he handed off to the bullpen vanish in a matter of minutes. "That doesn't matter," Gaudin said. "Any time [the team comes] out with a win, it's great." The A's gave Gaudin, a 24-year-old righty, a 2-0 lead when rookie Travis Buck, who collected a career-high four hits, hit the first of his two doubles on the night in the top of the third inning. But the Giants struck right back when Gaudin wobbled in the bottom of the frame, allowing consecutive singles and a walk to Lincecum before Winn's RBI groundout. Oakland got that run back on a sacrifice fly by Nick Swisher in the fifth, and that looked like it would be enough for Gaudin to parlay into his sixth win without a loss over an eight-start span since the Devil Rays beat him on April 27. "Another great night by Chad," Geren said. "It's just more of the same thing he's been giving up for a while now." But almost immediately after Geren pulled Gaudin, who had thrown 97 pitches, the game was tied. Geren explained that he liked lefty Jay Marshall's chances against Klesko and Barry Bonds, both left-handed hitters, but Klesko tripled to right-center field, and Bonds followed with a bullet of a single into right that beat Oakland's shift and tied the game. Asked why he didn't intentionally walk Bonds after Klesko's triple, Geren said he didn't want to put the go-ahead run on base. Thus, for his 6 2/3 innings of six-hit work, Gaudin saw his ERA take an upward tick from 2.41 to 2.43 while his win-loss record held at 6-1. "I felt like I still had something left," Gaudin said. "But I respect the manager, and you've gotta go with the decision." The A's knocked Lincecum out of the game with a line of three runs on four hits, five walks and three strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings, and the victory was their sixth in seven games. (以上是比賽內容,沒有笑點的梗,不想翻了) "We're playing great baseball," Geren said. "It's a lot of fun right now."
