21 #634 Mathieu LeBlanc Porter RHP Poirier is a French-Canadian from Montreal. He is 6'1'', 175 pounds and 21 years old. He posted a 1.31 ERA for the Montreal Orioles of the Quebec Baseball League this season, and he has a career mark of 12-8 with a 2.85 ERA in five seasons in that league. 22 #664 Preston Guilmet RHP Guilmet was the Pac-10's Pitcher of the Year in 2007. At 6'2'', 200, he has good size for a starting pitcher and an unorthodox delivery that makes him hard to pick-up. He doesn't throw hard, but he has a good pitch-mix and solid control. Guilmet is a junior, so he has the option of returning to UA if he wants another crack at being drafted higher. 23 #694 Chris Rusin LHP Rusin has a solid curveball that is his best pitch. He was a weekend starter for Kentucky this season. Rusin had some bicep soreness that kept him out for a time this season, but it wasn't deemed serious. The Michigan native had a 3.33 ERA and 65 strike-outs in 83.2 innings this season for the Wildcats. 24 #724 Ken Smalley RHP Smalley had a 3.72 ERA with a 9-2 with 94.1 innings this season for Delta State. An Illinois native, Smalley was named to the Rawlings/ABCA South Central Region Second Team this season. 25 #754 Trey Barham LHP Barham is VMI's career leader in wins. The 6'0'', 215 pound lefty had a 3.84 ERA and one complete game this season for the Cadets. 26 #784 Ryan Doolittle RHP A first baseman and pitcher, Doolittle is the younger brother of A's prospect and 2007 first-round supplemental pick Sean Doolittle. Ryan, like his brother, was a two-way player in college. He began his career at UNC-Wilmington, but competed for Cumberland County College this season. He won Player and Pitcher of the Week honors for the week of March 10th for Division III players. Doolittle had a 0.67 ERA and 59 strike-outs in 40 innings for Cumberland County this season and hit .390 with 38 RBIs in 25 games played. 27 #814 Brent Warren OF For round 27, the A's selected high school outfielder Brent Warren. Warren is a feel-good story. An Iowa native, Warren was diagnosed in 2006 with a congenital heart condition. He was originally told he could never play sports again, but after aortic bypass surgery performed at the Mayo Clinic, Warren was able to return to the field. He participated in the AFLAC game in 2007, just eight months after the surgery. He was a second-team pre-season All-American going into his senior year at Xavier High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Warren is an Oregon State recruit who hits left-handed and has drawn comparisons to fellow Iowan high school star and current Oakland A's outfielder Ryan Sweeney. 28 #844 Dusty Coleman SS Coleman is the second Shocker to be selected by the A's this year. He is a draft-eligible sophomore who hails from South Dakota. He hit .319 with eight homers and 71 RBIs for Wichita State this season, and he swiped 12 bags. Coleman also appeared in six games on the mound, allowing six runs in five innings. 29 #874 Justin Murray RHP Murray was the Texas Collegiate League Pitcher of the Year in 2007 after an outstanding performance in the summer league. In 2008, he went 3-2 with a 4.21 ERA in 72.2 innings for K-State. Murray is 6'4'', 215 and was the 2005 high school Kansas Pitcher of the Year. 30 #904 Kevin Jernigan 2B Jernigan hit .348 with 16 homers and 71 RBIs for South Alabama. He was originially a Florida State recruit, but he transferred to South Alabama. He is a senior pick. 31 #934 Mickey Storey RHP Storey finished the year with a sore arm, and was shelved with a sore elbow in 2007. When healthy, he has a low-90s fastball and a solid curveball. He was Collegiate Baseball's National Freshman Pitcher of the year in 2005. He struggled, probably because of the sore arm, this season, posting a 7.39 ERA. Storey is a flier pick for the A's at this stage in the draft. If he can regain his freshman year form, he could be a steal for Oakland. 32 #964 Ben Hornbeck LHP Hornbeck is the second K-State Wildcat to go to the A's in this draft. The southpaw worked mostly as a reliever in 2008, posting a 3.22 ERA in 22.1 innings. Hornbeck was a high school quarterback in the Phoenix area and was drafted out of high school by Philadelphia. He is a tall lefty, at 6'5''. 33 #994 Shawn Haviland RHP Haviland is the first Ivy League player taken by Oakland in the draft. The Harvard senior had a 52:6 K:BB ratio in 57.2 innings for the Crimson this season. He pitched as both a starter and a reliever. In four years at Harvard, Haviland had a 4.20 ERA in 237.2 innings. A's Assistant GM David Forst is a Harvard baseball alum himself. 34 #1024 Riley Welch RHP The A's connected with their past in the 34th round, taking former A's ace Bob Welch's son Riley. Riley is a high school right-hander from the Phoenix area. Riley was born the same year that Bob won an amazing 27 games for the A's en route to the team's third consecutive World Series appearance. And now I feel old. 35 #1054 Virgil Hill CF Hill is from Valencia, California, and he is a right-handed hitter and thrower. Hill was taken in the 22nd round by the Florida Marlins last season. He was a track runner in addition to a baseball player in high school. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 210.208.50.48
